Tornado Warning Canceled for Central Allegany County

The National Weather Service (NWS) has canceled the tornado warning for central Allegany County, effective immediately. The warning was issued at 5:45 PM EST and was in effect for central Allegany County, including the towns of Cumberland, Frostburg, and Westernport. The NWS said that the threat of a tornado has passed, and there is no longer a danger to the public. However, the NWS is urging residents to remain weather aware and to be prepared to take shelter if necessary. The NWS said that the tornado warning was issued based on radar-indicated rotation. There were no reports of tornadoes touching down in Allegany County. The NWS is urging residents to be prepared for severe weather, including tornadoes, and to have a plan in place in case of a tornado warning. Tornado warnings are issued when a tornado is imminent or occurring. When a tornado warning is issued, residents should take shelter immediately in a sturdy building, away from windows.
